Rozz Morehead
Music Director

I was born and raised in Kannapolis, NC, and began singing at church around age 8 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, where I accepted Christ as a teenager. Although I believed what I had been taught, it was kinda “the law” in the South to be a God-fearing, (emphasis on fearing!) Christian.

With scholarships, I attended UNCC receiving my BCA degree, then moved to NY to pursue a music career. My first “gigs” were at the comedy clubs Catch A Rising Star and Dangerfield’s where I honed not only my singing, but how to interact with an audience and make them laugh. Key:”Don't think of yourself more highly than you ought to think.” will always help in comedy. I opened for Rodney, Redd Foxx and many others including Jay Leno, who taught me the fine art of playing Ms. Pacman.

This led to a singing lead for a band called The Teenagers, known for their hits “Why Do Fools Fall In Love” and “Goody Goody”. We opened for Martha and the Vandellas, The Drifters, The Coasters, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, just to name a few. I was amazed because I thought most of these folks were dead already! With a submission of a home demo, I was chosen to appear on Star Search with Ed McMahon, the first of the American Idol! Those appearances opened the door to a career on Broadway, recording with Moby, Black 47, Grover Washington, Eartha Kitt and as a back up singer for Diana Ross, Ben E. King, Maxwell, Jason Robert Brown and many others.I’ve performed with symphony orchestras, for corporate clients, and with many wedding bands over the years, and can be heard on several episodes of The Wonder Pets. I also co-wrote the title cut “Home For Christmas” for NSYNC.

It’s been a glorious career, but I hit my stride when God did a 180 in my life and called me into a real, one on one relationship with Him, and into full time ministry. Now I’m working double duty as the Music Director at All Souls in the morning and at Redeemer Presbyterian NYC Eastside in the evening. I also serve as a deaconess at All Souls. I can say without question, that these are the best “gigs” I’ve ever had. Leading His people into worship is a privilege, an honor, and a blessing. Coming to see that His plans were bigger than anything I could’ve dreamed up… Priceless! I could have never imagined that I’d come full circle to singing at church each week, and miracle of miracles, worshipping with my husband, Vince Strebe standing next to me. “Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us”, I surrender all!
