Community Outreach

"The first service that one owes to others….consists in listening to them." -Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

Serving our Community

All Souls is a church for Rockland. What this means is that we seek to be intentionally serving the area by giving our time, our talents, and our money to help bring lasting social, physical, and spiritual renewal to the community we call home. This is what God calls “Shalom” or wholeness, and it is what we believe Jesus came to restore to all of creation.

This can be as simple as coaching a little league team or raking leaves for an elderly neighbor, or as robust as providing food and shelter to the homeless or helping to maintain a litter-free town. But, as we are learning, what this means, first of all, is listening.

As we listen and get a clearer picture, both of the needs around us, and of how we might be able to help, our goal is to be a church that serves our local community.

Serving our School District

This year we'll continue to work with Weekend Snack Attack, a ROTARY program that provides food for hungry school children to eat at home every weekend, when school meals are not available. The school selects the children in need. We then provide and pack individually sized, ready to eat (including microwavable) food items in bags and deliver to the schools to send home with children in need.

The Weekend Snack Attack program is run entirely by a group of volunteers and supported by donations and fund raising.

We'll also continue to provide snacks for children in the ELL program, who stay after school to learn English as a new language, at the Suffern Middle School.

Thanksgiving Baskets

We're sharing our Thanksgiving and providing food baskets with a supermarket gift card to local families in need. This year we have 73 families! Shining Light Helping Hands matched our food baskets with wellness baskets to offer the families. Boy Scouts Troop 21 donated a significant amount of supermarket gift cards, and the Women's Ministry here at All Souls signed up to pack and deliver the baskets!

We're thankful for the partnerships being developed with other organizations and groups in the community to love on the people around us!
